Anne Haug on Podium at Ironman World Championships

ANNE HAUG, one to watch

A short bio of who you are and your career so far

I have started triathlon very late at the age of 20 by teaching myself how to swim. At the same time I met my coach Dan Lorang as a fellow student at university and he started coaching me ever since. The first half of my career I spent racing ITU and moved to long course from 2017 after my second Olympic Games.

Three greatest achievements

  • 3rd IRONMAN World Championships 2020/2021
  • 2nd and 3rd ITU Worldchampion 2012+2013
  • 2times Olympian (London, Rio)
  • Ironman World Champion

To know more about you:

How did you start cycling / triathlon?

I got my first bike just after my 3rd Birthday and I was so proud of the „blue Rocket“. My mom always says that she haven’t seen me more happy than on this day. But my first triathlon was very late at the age of 20

Why do you continue with triathlon now?

I love to see what I’m capable of with hard training and will power in order to achieve my goals.

What was the most important race you’ve done to date?

I can’t pic a specific one. Every race taught me a lot and made me the athlete I am right now,  especially this one’s I failed. In order to become better and eventually win one time you have to fail … a lot. That the beauty of sports.

What is your pre-race ritual?

I always eat overnight oats and braid my hair in a specific way.

What do you think about while cycling?

Really depends on the session. Ideally nothing at all 🙂 being completely in a flow when riding fast is the best feeling.

What is your go-to training meal?

Oats. No matter what training session lies ahead, I can always eat them and they provide me with everything I need.

How do you recover after a tough cycling?

Eating and napping in my Reboots.

What song is your go-to for the cycling?

Rihanna and Eminem: I like the way you lie.

Who is your favor cycling “team”?

Bora Hansgrohe. But I’m a bit biased, because of my Coach 🙂

Apart from endurance sports, what is your passion?

I don´t have capacity for another passion in my life. I put all my heart and soul into triathlon. It’s a great privilege if your job is your biggest passion and I’m more than grateful.

What was the best piece of cycling advice you ever received?

Don´t have the inside crank arm down when cornering.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Don´t try to follow someone else’s footsteps. Find your own way, surround yourself with good people and trust the process.

Reliability, range of products, quality, aerodynamics, component handling and look of course 😉

What’s your favorite ROTOR component and why?

Powermeter, because it helps me to become a stronger athlete.
